Active topical hemostatic agents have biological activity and directly participate at the end of coagulation cascade to induce a clot at the site of bleeding. Active agents used in surgery include thrombin and combination products containing thrombin.
Thrombin converts fibrinogen (present in patient's blood) into an insoluble fibrin clot. Additionally, thrombin promotes clot formation by activating platelets, leading to fibrin binding and aggregation of these cells.
ReliStat™ is a medical device kit with thrombin for reconstitution and usage. ReliStatkit contains 1 vial of lyophilized thrombin (Human), a sterile gelatin sponge, 5ml Water for Injection (I.P.) ampoule and a sterile 5 ml syringe with needle.
Thrombin (Human) is a sterile, lyophilized, powder preparation made from pooled human blood plasma. The lyophilized Thrombin is reconstituted with WFI. The sterile sponge is wetted with thrombin solution containing 125 units/ml thrombin prior to application. The gelatin sterile sponge is intended for application to bleeding surfaces in various surgical procedures.
ReliStat™ is indicated as a haemostatic device for surgical procedures when control of capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding by pressure, ligature, and other conventional procedures is either ineffective or impractical. Use of ReliStat helps in achieving hemostasis within 1-2minutes, controls post-operative oozing upto 100% and is the preferred hemostat where routine methods are contraindicated or ineffective.
ReliStat™ Kit 500 IU is available as Human thrombin 500IU with sterile gelatin sponge, water for injection and syringe and needle.
